    Wild life

The Dubai’s desert is home to a limited number of creatures that have made the arid conditions their home.  Be prepared to see camels roaming in the desert as there are plenty of farms on the outskirt areas.  Roads leading out of Dubai are lined with warning triangles with camels, as camels are known to run out into the roads.  Goats and sheep are also ample as well as the typical Arabian horse.  Less likely sightings are of the Arabian leopard.  The Arabian sandcats, Sand Fox and Desert Hares are frequently seen in search of shade.  Common creature that one can be expected to see are Gazzelles (symbol of the Qatar Airways).

    Bird watching

The gulf skies are slap in the middle of bird migration routes from Central Asia to Africa, which means that there are many appreciative birdwatchers in the region.  The Dubai Tourism Department is also involved in introducing species to the region, most recently they successfully introduced the Pink flamingo to the Creek area.  The ever improving greenery for the city is also responsible for attracting a large number of birds.

    Dubai Creepie Crawlies

Geckos are at home in and out of the city, be it running along building walls or rushing across the roads.  Luckily, they are harmless lizards.  Red back spiders are said to have been sighted and not so pleasant snakes.

    Coastline

Stretching seven Emirates, from Abu Dhabi to Fujeirah and then Oman, the coastline is home to a multitude of marine life.  The sea waters house tropical fish, turtles, sea bass, jellyfish and sharks.  Marine scientists have come across approximately seven different species of whale and spotted dolphins in the clear blue waters.  The U.A.E region is a spectacular attraction for divers, and other sea appreciating tourists.

    Desert Oases & Green Belts

For a desert region, Dubai contains a surprising plentitude of inner city greenery.  The roads are lined with palm trees, lawns and numbers of park areas are increasing.  The Dubai Muncipality has put a lot of effort into making Dubai a green city.  The government gardeners are always seen out in force, at all times of the day tending to the flowers, shrubs, grass, and palm trees that line the roads.

The most common tree is the date palm tree which makes up beautiful green oases in the desert.  Apart from which there are roughly 3000 plants that have been identified by botanists.
